My wife is from Peru and I speak fluent Spanish (Bachelor’s Degree).  My interest in language was greatly increased as I studied the way certain words and phrases were translated from English.  That made me stop taking idiomatic expressions for granted and think about what they really meant and where they came from.

Also, my wife works for an airline, so we have been able to travel extensively (44 countries and counting), and communication is always an interesting experience.
