I was making a change to Jim Gorman’s profile (at his request) that necessitated deleting and recreating his account. Well, it turns out that if you delete an account, all messages from that account are deleted as well.

This was my error. At least it happened when this new forum was relatively young and the loss is minimal. I won’t be deleting any more accounts--I’ll be deactivating them instead.

Jim has not abandoned us and is still here, even if his recent posts are not.

I am relieved to hear that Jim is still here, and has only decided to conceal his identity more than he has in the past.  I could hardly fault him for that.

Say Dave, I realize this is your headache and not mine, but I’m curious:  if a wordgeek or petekurt situation crops up again, is there any way for you to lock someone out without thereby deleting all their posts?  I mean, in both those cases the act that triggered the expulsion was them going back and deleting lots of their earlier posts, messing up the continuity of the threads.  If the only way of preventing someone from doing this does the same thing even more completely…

That’s probably what deactivation is for.
