I tried to bring the doc up in OpenOffice and was told it wasn’t a Win97 document.  That’s the highest version of docs my OpenOffice will handle.  Is it really a docx?

I was able to open the previous version in OpenOffice 3.1, but now the current version of the doc caused the app to hang.

It was originally a .docx file that I saved as a Word 97 .doc. That conversion may be throwing OpenOffice off. Try this version.

Although the document won’t help you much. It’s all about Windows. The only relevant bits for Linux are the downloads for Junicode and the keyboard map (there’s a Linux version of that). There are separate links for those.

That one loads into OpenOffice 3.1 under Ubuntu 9.10 Linux OS.
