I am almost certain that more than a few boys in the American South were named Junior.

(I can’t work out how to use the quote function. Are there instructions anywhere?)

I don’t know if you are up to speed on quotes yet, but if not…

To post a quote (eg as above), use the “post reply” button, not the “fast reply” one. At the top you will see a row of buttons starting “<b>” and ending “Close Tags”.  Click on “quote”, then copy and paste the words you want to quote between [quote} and {/quote] (curly brackets used instead of square brackets deliberately to avoid “and” being rendered as a quote).  If you want to quote the majority of a previous post, click on the “quote” butteon below that post and delete the part you don’t want to quote, remembering to leave the “unquote” tag at the end.

I just remembered that Onelook.com published name frequencies in the US. I don’t know where they get this information but for ‘junior’ I found:

name:  A male given name (rare: 1 in 6250 males; popularity rank in the U.S.: #532)
name:  A surname (rare: 1 in 100000 families; popularity rank in the U.S.: #12396)

...between [quote} and {/quote] (curly brackets used instead of square brackets deliberately to avoid “and” being rendered as a quote).

You can also use the “code” function to have square bracketed commands displayed as opposed to executed:

...between
and
.

Anything printed within the code commands will appear exactly as typed, with no formatting. It’s intended for the display of software code.
