In as much as my extremely limited research has heretofore revealed…

the words “orange” and “orangutan” and etymologically unrelated, and it’s just a coincidence that orangutans are orange.

Anyone have any evidence to the contrary?

No, you’re quite right, it is a complete coincidence.
