I hope this isn’t too off-topic, but if so perhaps you can refer me to a more appropriate forum.

I’m looking to buy one of those small electronic dictionaires but a search on Google for “electronic dictionary” turns up a lot, so I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with these and can recommend a good one. What I’d like is somethiing you can hold in your hands that has enough english words to be useful, has a decently readable display and ideally allows you to add new entries. It doesn’t _need_ to speak or do crossword puzzles and solve anagrams, but that’s a nice plus. I don’t need it for translations; if it just has a good depth of english words that would be enough.

Does anyone here have a recommendation?

What you might try is a subscription to Merriam-Webster’s online dictionary, which would be accessible from an Internet-capable cellular phone or smart device.
