Although there is a point to learning other languages, I wouldn’t think the failures of Google translate add much to the evidence. No one holds it up as the best translation tool around.

[Brief summary of what follows: Google is dropping an automatic-translation tool, because overuse by spam-bloggers is flooding the internet with sloppily translated text, which in turn is making computerized translation even sloppier.]

Surprisingly candid and helpful note to put at the start of an article.

Actually, they do, and for good reason--it is noticeably better than the other available ones, at least the ones I’ve seen.  Do you have a better one to suggest?

...The standalone Google Translate site, which allows you to enter text or URLs for translation, will remain ...

For this I am grateful.  It was unclear without reading the linked article (I was slowed by link’s ad-wall) if this would end google translate.  I would not rely upon it to compose an elegant personal message but it is indeed useful enough to allow communication over a language barrier or when needing to understand a brief quote.  I could not easily imagine using it to read a novel but to assist in doing so, absolutely.  I think it is a great tool.  It might even be of immense help for those learning to read in other languages.  I was worried for a bit.

Sederet is more reliable. GT has sometimes given me utter bumsteers.

Well, sure, they all do; my experience has been that recently it has given fewer than the alternatives.  I’ll try the one you suggest.

Edit: For pete’s sake, it’s an English Indonesian Dictionary Translator.  That’s nice if you’re working with Indonesian, but otherwise not very helpful.
