HDAS records the verb “barf” from 1956 ("I turned around and barfed") and says that it’s implied in “barfer” from 1947 ("That barfer!").

November: Penguin Books is found not guilty of obscenity in the United States for publishing D. H. Lawrence’s Lady Chatterley’s Lover;

I can’t find anything on an American obscenity trial for Lady C. in 1960, Dave. Did you mean the famous UK trial of that year?

Onward, ever onward. Have at those who would call it dullsville.

You don’t say so, but is there any doubt Yogi Bear was named after Logie Baird?

I can’t prove this, but I have a feeling Lippy the Lion, who joined the Hanna-Barbera stable in 1962, was named after baseball manager Leo “The Lip” Durocher.
