Diegogarcity at work here - I’ve just taught something similar to students at a much lower academic level. While they’ve grasped the principles okay, their consistent application will require more confidence and more practice. Confidence in your ability to write an academic essay is a large factor in a successful outcome. Dave’s advice to stick to plain English is excellent.
Come to think of it, we were never taught how to write an academic essay. It was just something we hopefully improved on by trial and error and something that we were expected to have grasped by the time we went to university.
