1. A complete disaster.
2. Something very difficult that nobody wants to deal with.

Meaning 2. could lead to this being the tar baby of a new generation.

It’s a useful term not that far from Douglas Adams’s SEP field.

Poms usually say skip though dumpster is known. Private Eye used to call the gossip columnist Nigel Dempster Nigel Dumpster.
