The google book links only work in select countries. How unfortunate.
So, is it a waste of time to post fancy google books links? Maybe not.
In order to avoid censorship, people from censored locations sometimes use browser-based, freely available internet proxies such as this: (link).
Go to the proxy, and make the following adjustment to it’s settings:
Select the country from which you desire to appear to be ‘calling from’ by finding the “advanced options” dropdown menu (in roughly the center of the page, below the proxy’s ‘navigation window’--where it displays, by default, “http://google.com"). Next, in that dropdown, where it says “server” there is another dropdown menu that should read, by default, “random server”—drop that menu down, and select a country, US, UK, or NL.
Finally, in the proxy’s ‘navigation window’--where it displays, by default, “http://google.com"--enter “http://www.wordorigins.org/index.php/forums/” (without the quotation marks), press ‘enter’, and navigate to the forum of interest.
[N.B. you may not be able to log into wordorigins via that proxy.]
Whether this works or not, I’d like to know. And perhaps this could be moved to (or duplicated in) the ‘meta’ forum.
