Interesting column by Allan Metcalf about the origins of the Halloween phrase, which apparently go back to the 1920s in the western United States and Canada.

I recall that Canadian cites cropped up in our earlier threads on this topic. And that 1927 Lethbridge cite in the column was precisely the one our own D Wilson came up with in this thread from last year!
