In an effort to put off memorizing Old Norse verb paradigms for a test I have next week, I went through the old posts to see which thread has been the busiest. (I did not go into the old Ezboard or Yuku archives, only the current ones.)
The winner by far is “Sherlock Holmes and English” started by OP Tipping on 28 September. At the moment it has 132 posts, the only thread to top the one hundred mark. The 3,125-and-counting views isn’t remarkable in an absolute sense—the number of views is correlated with age, so their are a lot of posts from 2007 with several thousand views. But it is remarkable for attaining over 3,000 in so short a period.
I attribute this to two things: 1) OP Tipping’s practice of adding to this thread instead of starting a new one for each interesting word he encounters, and 2) the topic of Sherlock Holmes, which is probably drawing in a lot of lurkers via search engines.
That’s pretty good for a thread in which OP worried that might be off-topic in the original post.
The next closest thread is “Koran vs Qur’an” started by Pavlos and active from 9 July 2008 to 22 September 2008. That has 97 posts and a whopping 35,756 views (the record). Again, search engine links are certainly what are driving that number of views.
