I see that there are things that look like links in our discussions but are actually ads by text-enhance. It causes some visual confusion. Is this an actually link that the message writer wanted us to follow? Uh, no.

Like Slate, these are highlighted and underlined, but still misleading.

So, in Aldi’s “Shitstorm” OP, there is a link to the article in Daily Telegraph AND there is a link at the bottom on the word “Date” which is actually an ad to look up a record on someone. Their style are identical so that you can’t tell without hovering over them which is a link and which is an ad.

In Slate, they have also gone with these ads, but the links look different enough.

This latter may be browser dependent. I’ll check. I’m using Chrome. There might also be an extension that defeats these ads.

I think it’s malware installed in my browser. I’m working on it. :-) I found the extension and deleted it. All’s well.
