To me, it suggests an exotic rodent (or edentate) living among the rocks somewhere - a cousin, perhaps, to the hyrax. Or alternatively—Ex-Lax kept in the freezer: a cool cathartic.

In the circles I move in, you would only hear it as a joke. It’s basically a word from bad sitcom dialog.
