I was playing a game at Merriam-Webster called Name That Thing and I noticed that the highest average score is for people in their 60’s. The same seems to hold true for most of the games they offer. I suppose it is only natural that vocabulary would improve with age?

What items are chosen for the quiz may also be a factor. For example, when I took it, one of the items I was asked to name was the nib of a fountain pen. I would bet that there are many in the under forty crowd who have never even seen a fountain pen, much less know what a nib is.
