Very good! I hadn’t come across Muphry’s Law before but I can’t count the number of times I’ve fallen foul of it.

Hooray for #3, ignoring register! A decade or so ago a campaign against irresponsible drinking was launched in the UK with the slogan ‘If you do drink, don’t do drunk’. Any number of pedants promptly started yowling that it was ‘bad grammar’, which it isn’t, and ignored the fact that (a) it was using a currently fashionable turn of phrase and (b) was quite neat and witty.
