Just noticed an unread PM in my Private Messages folder. Here it is:

Greetings,

May this message “find favor in your eyes.” -Genesis 32:5. My name is Glen.

Did you ever study about William Lyon Phelps?  He taught the first American university course on the modern novel.

Thanks,
TrueCompanion

Did anybody else get one of these? Has to be spam.

If anyone else has been spammed or received such an email, I’ll take action.

Perhaps I’m the only one. How odd. The line on William Lyon Phelps is pulled straight from Wikipedia. Ah well, spam or not, Glen gets the heave-ho from my message folder.

Sounds like an e-mail I got about a week ago.

I haven’t received any such PM or email, as far as I’m aware, and the only thing that is likely to be found in my eyes is evidence of increasing presbyopia.

But, in a matter related to the main board (so perhaps better raised there, but anyway) – on the assumption that ‘Glen’ isn’t a commercial or political spammer targeting everyone, but a person who genuinely wishes to increase awareness of WLP, for whatever reason – is this technically spam?

For the record: I looked him up, as the name rang only the worthy-thrice-named-American bell, and have no overwhelming desire to become better acquainted with him at this particular point in time. However, I’m open to persuasion.

Try googling “TrueCompanion” (his ‘signature’) instead of William Lyon Phelps…

Well, that was an education. I wonder what William Lyon Phelps would say.
