Has auto censorship reached new pinnacles of absurdity , the other week in making a comment I used the age old saying “any tom, dick. and harry” when it was posted, the second name was deleted, I tried substituting “Richard” but somehow it did,nt have the same effect.

e.e.cummings and archy don’t have many stylistic disciples. If you’d spelt the names with capitals, the absurdity that so distressed you probably wouldn’t have happened. Did you do it on purpose? I notice you bowed to convention with “Richard” (also with Tom and Harry, in the title of your thread), so you can’t possibly be a cockroach with literary aspirations.

Major League Baseball, for one, has that kind of filter on all their teams’ message boards.  Of course people get creative, saying stuff like “your team $ucks”, “Player X is a d1ck”, etc. to get around the filter.  Just like spam for “V1agra”.

Here I was thinking that was a missile program based in Uttar Pradesh.

One of the more odd and obscure euphemisms I have heard in a while....  ;-)

My brother was a sergeant in the [London] Metropolitan Police, and he swears that one year the internal mailshot publicising the Christmas carol concert by the force’s own band and choral society absolutely failed to get through to anyone, because it listed the carols they would perform, which included Ding Dong Merrily on High.

An aviation forum I used to frequent went through a period of overly aggressive autofiltering after a software update. The biggest eye-roller was that the work cockpit would cause posts to be blocked.
