Faldage in September of 2006 noted that a google search in the form Diegogarcity -wordorigins got exactly 2 hits.  I just did it today and it’s up to 186.  The word by itself gets 1030 and in most uses they credit Wordorigins and sometimes Aldi, thus the coexistence of diegogarcity and wordorigins.

Snowclones by comparison was coined on January 15, 2004 and now gets 213,000 hits.

The coining event for Diegogarcity is in this discussion from 8/23/03 8:18 pm

Excellent!  Maybe by the time the OED gets around to revising D, it will be included!

To paraphrase Chaucer:

Go, litel worde . . .
And red whereso thow be, or elles songe,
That thow be understood, God I biseche!

It’s a long haul yet to that entry in the OED!

Shouldn’t one of us do a Wiki entry for diegogarcity?  I’ve never done one.  Dave’s summary might be a good start.

edit: the snowclone entry in Wikipedia was hard fought.  Read the discussion. If we start it, we’d have to be prepared to defend it.  Language Log seems to come strongly to its defense against those who suggest that Snowclone is not in general use.  We could expect such retorts as “who is this aldiboronti and why should we care about what he thinks about words?”

If snowclones got a hard time poor old diego would be ripped to shreds. I think it would need far greater currency to justify a wiki.

Perhaps we should start with wiktionary. Seems a more appropriate venue in any case, and you can include citations to document its use.
