I just came across this today: National Geographic News writes about language extinction.  I thought it might make for interesting discussion.

Harrison (referenced in the linked article) has a new book out on the subject. He was also on The Colbert Report last week (a “news” program on the US cable network Comedy Central), so expect a flurry of articles on the subject of language extinction as reports and editors discover it and Harrison promotes his book.

Claire Bowern (an Australian linguist) was not impressed.
