Great update, Dave. Roger Fuckebythenavele. That is priceless!. Poor guy. John Wilmot is probably the English poet fondest of the word fuck, although even he replaces it with frig at times. Here’s an example, a tributary quatrain to Nell Gwynn, who doubtless roared with laughter when she read it. (She was a game gal.) The poem retains its shock power even today.

She was so exquisite a whore
That in the belly of her mother,
She placed her cunt so well before
That her father fucked them both together.

(She was a game gal.)

She was a better woman than any of those hedonistic, lecherous Restoration aristocrats deserved --- the patronizing fuckers

I

n 1948, the publishers of The Naked and the Dead persuaded Norman Mailer to use the euphemism fug instead,…

Apropos, as they also persuaded him with yours truly, motherfugger, in the same novel.

And prompting Tallulah Bankhead’s immortal “So you’re the young man who doesn’t know how to spell fuck.”
