I’m interested in the sch-sound that is used as a symbolic for ‘quiet’, as it seems around the world. “Hush” and “Shush” is clearly words, but the sound itself is maybe more of a signal - as it is used also in languages that doesn’t use any sch-sound otherwise (for example Finnish). Also the boo-sound (to scare someone) could maybe be universal (pronounced b+schwa etc). Does anyone know if there are any ideas about the origins of these words/sounds, etymological discussion or anything like that? Anything written at all? Or does anyone have any inspired conclusion or observation? I’m interested in it all!
