A prefix I’ve been meaning to cover for a while
Surcease and surfeit are two more examples (although I had to check both to make sure it was the same prefix.)
surname, borrowed whole from French
This reads as if the French word were surname, which is of course not true.
surplice, “worn over the fur”. Apparently priests occasionally had trouble keeping warm, in those unheated mediaeval churches.
Surcingle, surtax etc - check out the OED, though obviously not all sur- words are of the same origin.
