Covfefe started appearing, almost as if at random, in reader comments following news stories in many newspapers.
Easily bewildered, I checked some dictionaries, reputable ones.  No luck.  In desperation, I went to the Urban Dictionary site.

As a die hard admirer of “fake news”, I also had a glance at the NY Times.

Although this is very silly, I was impressed at how quickly people rolled into action. conveve.com was registered within an hour of the post. Urban dictionary already has 16 pages of entries.

And the Merriam-Webster social media wing is killing it, as usual.

covfefe, n., from the Old English cofa (room, chamber) + fefer (fever)

Biased viewpoints, as in those produced by an echo chamber

D. Trump, tweet, May 2017, “Despite the constant negative press covfefe”

Nice work, checks out.

Verified with the dictionary of the Royal Spanish Academy of the Language:

alcoba
Del ár. hisp. alqúbba, este del ár. clás. qubbah, y este del pelvi gumbad ‘cúpula [de un templo del fuego]’.

Alcoba is a room, often a dormitory.  Removing the definate article, al, from the original Arabic, we
are left with cob.  In Spanish, the letters b and v share a common pronunciation, hence, cov

Given the disproportionate attention paid to all things Arabic by the echo chamber, it’s not hard to connect the dots.

The Guardian weighed in with some linguistics and a link to a Paul Dickson book that sounds interesting - Authorisms.

Amusing but when I think of some of the typos I’ve come up with! Although of course I’m not the President and nothing at all hangs on my words. Doesn’t Twitter have a spellchecker? If so I urge the guy to use it, but then I don’t suppose his enormous ego would let him.

But it’s not just a typo, is it? It’s incomplete, as though he’d passed out or wandered off or had a stroke. But the optimism was unfounded.

Incidentally, has anyone encountered on the net the phenomenon of people referring to Trump as ‘45’, refusing to use his name at all? I’m not sure what the logic behind it is, but it seems rather childish. I don’t know if they do it in speech as well.

Yeah, it’s more than a typo. But I don’t think it holds any great significance (other than the fact that the president’s tweets should be carefully checked and vetted because what he says has real implications and they clearly aren’t).

As for the 45 thing, I think it’s because Trump likes seeing his name, so by avoiding its use they’re not feeding his ego. I’m not saying that it is an effective strategy, but I believe that’s the logic behind it.

They call him 45 because, like vinyl records, his appeal is mainly nostalgic.

Amazingly, instead of playing it off, Sean Spicer has built it up into something bigger.

Much has been made of Mr. Trump’s use of this word. The answer’s actually quite simple --- in a word: glossolalia. This week was the Hebrew festival of Shavuout (Greek: Pentecost). If you will look at your Bibles (Acts 2, if memory serves) you will observe that on this feast day, the Apostles were granted the Gift of Tongues. Clearly some of the Gift has rubbed off on Mr. Trump and those around him (hence Mr. Whatsisname’s assertion, that the President and his apostles know exactly what he meant). I believe the original Gift was transient, so Mr. T may be reverting to his version of English by now.

No, ‘Covfefe’ Was Not Trump Speaking Arabic

And yes, apparently people were seriously saying that’s what he was doing!
