Mark Davies’s corpora hosted by Brigham Young University now includes a database of words found in the Early English Books Online collection. The database has some 755 million words from over 25,000 texts dating from the 1470s to the 1690s.

This will be an extremely valuable resource. EEBO is a tremendous resource for finding the text of a specific book, but it’s not set up to do corpus searches. (You can, but it’s too clumsy to be useful.) The inclusion in the BYU collection of corpora is wonderful.

One more astonishing resource. I would never have dreamed when young that one day the knowledge of the whole world would be at my fingertips. Life is far too short.
