Interesting article, and what a lovely word, nychthemeron, the complete cycle of day and night. Completely new to me, but OED has it. From the Greek, nycti, night, hemera, day. Here’s the first cite:

1682 H. MORE Annot. Lux Orientalis 115 Onely the shadowy Vale of the Night will be cast over them once in a Nycthemeron.

Yes, a very interesting article, and I liked the comments about languages with simple words for nyc(h)themeron (e.g., Russian sutki).
