Definitely better response times.

With that issue out of the way, I want to raise one that I wouldn’t mention if you weren’t specifically soliciting opinions, but since you are…

I don’t know if the appearance of the site is something you just haven’t got around to tinkering with, but I really like the old look better, particularly for the discussion board.  The new one, while not actively ugly, has all the charm of a filing cabinet IMHO.

There are several different “looks” available for the discussion board. At the bottom of the page you will see a selection box marked “themes.” See if you like any of these better.

If people come to a consensus on which theme is preferred, I can make that the default.

My vote is for the Default. I’m not enamoured of it but I’m even less charmed with the rest.

I find the “Developer” easiest to read, but it reminds me of dull office furniture even more than Default does.  Sorry to sound cranky, but I don’t like any of them much.

Oddly and annoyingly, when I switch between themes I sometimes, but not always, get thrown back to an earlier page rather than the one I was looking at when I changed the theme.

The “Forum Home” page shows some extra information (tables of “most recent” and “most popular” threads)in the Developer theme that is not shown under the other themes.  These might be useful, but I’m not sure if they’re implemented correctly; when I posted to this thread it did not move into the “most recent” table.

I also like Developer.  Dull is readable.  Dull is good.

As near as I can tell, the fast reply is faster becuse you don’t get to decide whether to preview your post.  You save the time involved in making the decision and you save the time involved in looking at your post to make sure it was what you want.  The only way it would be less fast is if you found only after posting that that slightly complicated thing you were trying to do didn’t come out quite the way you wanted it to and you have to go back in to edit it.

Doo.
Dah.

This was an experiment to answer the question I asked in the “happy as a clam” thread.  Apparently if one edits a post quickly enough after submission (guess: soon enough that it would have the same time stamp?) It isn’t marked as edited.  I added “Dah” in an edit, but the post was not so marked.  It probably will be now, after the time required to add this note.
