Sea of Words; King, Dean; Henry Holt & Company; 1995.
Intended as a lexicon to accompany Patrick O’Brian’s series of novels about the Royal Navy during the Napoleonic Wars, this book is a good reference for maritime and early-nineteenth century terms. The book is not strong on etymologies, but is excellent for definitions. Contains a foreward with information on the Napoleonic Wars, Nelson’s Royal Navy, and medicine of the period.
