The Independent has a longish article on the subject..
It’s not the greatest of articles. The writer conflates saving languages with documenting them before they die, it repeats the cliched and inaccurate journalistic trope of the “one lone man on a mission to save an uncaring world,” and it would have been nice to interview more linguists to get a broader range of opinion on the topic. (I’m sure those working on French apostrophes have something to say here.) But it’s not terrible and it devotes a rather impressive number of column inches to what is a real problem.
