WOTY, Is Enough Enough?

March 25, 2020

27 November 2010

Mark Abley has a nice column in the Montreal Gazette on the proliferation of Words of the Year. What started out as a nice reflection on the changes to English over the past year has become a sorry marketing gimmick. I’ve always wondered how you could possibly crown a WOTY before the year is even over (as the Oxford New American Dictionary and other groups do).
